Located a few miles up from the pier, this was once a key player in downtown Santa Barbara, and aided in the gentrification of lower State Street. Despite the high-end shops and historic reputation, this 1920 landmark never fully bounced back from its peak during the 1930s. However, it is a comfortable mid market hotel for those who want to be in the midst of all the partying. The rooms here are a step down from those at the Harbor View, but the rates here are very reasonable.Marked by a green canopy, the gracious Spanish Colonial structure rises three stories above its pink arches and offers clean, contemporary lodging but few facilities: no restaurant, no pool, no gym and, perhaps its greatest deficiency, no bar.
